The time has come…It’s time to start heading out to the beach.  Can you not already hear the ocean waves crashing?  The beach is such a magical place, filled with fun, relaxation and most of all memories.  Lets face it though, the beach can wreak havoc on your hair.  So we are sharing some Beach Bag Hair Essentials for your day at the beach, so that you can best protect those locks all day long.

Beach Bag Hair Essentials #1: Towel

It’s always a good idea to pack a towel, even if you don’t plan to hop in the water.  A softer towel is best as it will result in less friction to the hair when you are towel drying it after coming out of the ocean.

Beach Bag Hair Essentials #2: Hat

We totally get it, a hat can be a pain to pack into your bag, but we recommend not leaving home without it.  Not only does it completely cover your hair and scalp, but if its a larger hat, it can also protect your shoulders from the sun.

If your not really a hat person, no worries, you can also bring a scarf.  A scarf is a bit easier to pack, yet still provides some coverage from the direct sun.  Oftentimes, people don’t realize that their scalp can be burning from the sun, and its not an area we typically apply sunscreen, so a scarf can shield some of the rays and protect your scalp from over exposure.

Our founder Wendy Iles has been in NYC and will be there most of this summer.  She’s currently busy launching Iles Formula into Bergdorf Goodman and working on  the set of Project Runway with the beautiful Heidi Klum. We were lucky to catch up with her on set to get a glimpse of What’s In Wendy Iles’ Hair Bag? 

We wanted to see what she’s using to create some of these stunning hair styles and what her “go to” products and tools are.  If your interested in taking a peek, then read along with us.

The Case

Of course Wendy’s bags are white with black detailing, she wouldn’t have it any other way.  Wendy uses the brand SWISS for carrying her hair essentials around with her. They have a combination lock versus keys that get lost, great  360 degree wheels and are super light but strong. As you notice she has two bags with her at all times.  Wondering whats in each bag?  When your toting around bags that are identical twins, it makes it difficult to distinguish between what is stored in each bag.  If you notice on the top of the bags where ILES is written, you will see on one case there are two dots, and on the other there are three dots. Are you wondering what this means?  So were we,  so we asked Wendy.  This is how she is able to know what is in each bag without having to open them up.  The bag with two dots contains Wigs and Hair Extensions, and the bag with three dots is all of her tools and product.  She is such a virgo!  Ready to see What’s In Wendy Iles’ Hair bag?

Let’s Go Inside

Here is a peek at the first side of Wendy’s bag.  Here you will see she keeps, products, clips, pins, and an extension cord.  Plus you will also notice the bag of adapters.  When you travel to multiple destinations, as much as Wendy does, it makes sense that you would need all of the necessary adapters for every country you visit.

In this section of her kit, you will see a bag of wendy’s preferred bobby pins that she gets from Japan.  Wendy pointed out she prefers these pins to all others as they are very strong holding, you will also notice a second bobby pin size that she named invisible pins. They are super fine  and are perfect if you want to invisibly thread them into hairstyles. Only downside is that they are black.

Of course her pin kit is perfectly organized with all of the essentials.

ELASTICS:  In multiple colors and varieties for any hair type and color.  Wendy also likes to use the hooked elastics for securing ponytails.

RIBBON:  You never know when you will want to add a bit of detail.

HAIR EXTENSION CLIPS:  The little clips on the left are sewn to hair wefts to create instant clip in extensions for any client.

HAIR PINS: These are Wendy’s preferred brand of hair pins. They are Daria hair pins from Japan. These are the strongest pins she has found.

You will notice that the only products you are seeing in Wendy’s kit is Iles Formula.  This is because Wendy uses very little styling products on set, except her Iles Formula Finishing Serum that she uses on every single head of hair she touches.  Most of Wendy’s clients are Iles Formula users at home, so by the time they are in her chair, the shampoo and conditioner steps with Iles Formula are already complete.

Wendy prefers using only the serum throughout the day on set because it never weights the hair down and continues to keep the hair “behaving” all day long.  When you are on set  for long hours with the same head of hair, the tendency is to use hairspray all day long to manage the hair.  When this happens however, the hair becomes unmanageable and over saturated with product.  With the Finishing Serum, this does not happen.  This is what most on set hairstylists love most about our serum. Touchable, workable hair all day long.

This is the other section of Wendy’s bag where she keeps her irons, blowdryer, brushes, velcro rollers, etc.  Let’s take a closer look at what she is using:

DRYER: Wendy carries two different hair dryers on set.  Her Dyson Professional Supersonic Hair Dryer and her other dryer by Harry Josh.

TONGS:  She carries tongs in multiple sizes from Hot Tools and Babyliss Pro.

FLAT IRON: GHD Straightening Irons are her flat irons of choice.

VELCRO ROLLERS:  Velcro rollers are perfect for setting the hair while the client is getting her makeup done.

The Set Up

For the set up, it’s always best to keep it simple.  You don’t want to pull out your entire kit and take up the entire table.  Quite often you are sharing table space with the makeup artist and the client will need space to put their necessities as well.  So you will notice the minimal set up.  Let’s get the breakdown of Wendy’s Set up:

COMBS:  Wendy prefers metal tail combs not plastic.   Her brand of choice is from Paris Hercules Sagemann.  For the rake comb, she loves Delorme Paris and for  the cutting comb, Triumph Master from Germany.

BRUSHES:  Olivia Garden ceramic + ion round brushes are a fave of Wendy’s.  She also loves the Wet Brush.

It’s always fun to be able to sneak a peek inside the kit of the pro’s and see exactly what they are using to create the looks we see on the runway, red carpet, tv and editorial.  Thank you to Wendy for letting us take a peek.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Are you feeling overwhelmed about your hair?  Have the tools and chemicals you have been using taken their toll on your beautiful curls?  This is something we hear often from clients that have curly, coarse hair.  In this journal, we want to share with you The Ideal Hair Spa For Coarse Curly Damaged Hair and what you can do and use to begin correcting the stress that has been placed on your hair.

Tools

To begin, it is important to mention if you are not already aware, that hair tools can be very harsh on curly coarse hair.  If you are feeling like you have damaged curly hair, then one of the major contributors may be the hair tools that you are using.  Be sure that you are choosing professional grade tools to dry and style your hair, as those are typically made with the latest technology for protecting the hair as best they can while using.

In addition, you should be mindful of the temperature that you have the irons set at, especially if you are using professional tools as these tend to get much hotter than the non professional versions .  Start lower and you can always work up.

We always recommend using a protection product before styling your hair.  Our Iles Formula Finishing Serum is your hair’s BFF when it comes to protection, so apply it before styling if you tend to use tools often.  If you don’t use tools you can still use the serum, as it serves as the perfect styling product for curly coarse hair. Chemicals can also be the culprit if you have damaged curly hair.  If you are coloring your hair with products that lighten the hair like bleach or high lift color, then your curls are definitely going to be affected.  Lightening products can definitely take a toll on curly hair and should only be applied by licensed salon professionals.  This will help to ensure the chemical is applied properly and the integrity of your hair remains in tact.  Do your research before lightening your hair and find the best stylist in your area within your budget.  Don’t be afraid to spend a little more to get it done by someone with more experience, trust us this WILL make a difference.

Healthy is currently what’s trending when it comes to hair. Lustrous, beautiful, healthy looking hair.  With that being said, if healthy hair is what you desire, then what you use on your hair is very important.  It may be time to give your hair a break from some of the elements causing damage to your hair.  This could mean taking a break from your irons and hairdryer.  If you think it may be time you and your tools  “take a break”, then we have some No Heat Curls options for you that will be a game changer and have your hair healthy in no time at all.

For each No Heat Curls technique, we recommend using our Iles Formula Finishing Serum, as it helps control the hair while setting due to its pure silk extracts, and won’t make the hair heavy or greasy. Known as the hairs best protector against UV damage , color fade, humidity and heated tools which is not the case here, but something to keep in mind when back using hot tools.   What more could you ask for.

A pro tip we love to share is that if you set your hair when it is wet, you will get tighter and longer lasting curls or waves than if you set it while it is dry.

Braids

The first and one of the easiest options for No Heat Curls is braids.  Braids are perfect as they create a beachy waves vibe.  By simply adjusting the size and amount of braids you add, will determine how much and how tight the waves are.  We have found that two larger braids work very well.  Plus, you get to braid your hair and wear the braids for a day or two before releasing them.  That makes 3 days of hairstyles without the use of tools at all.

Are you thinking right now that you don’t really know how to braid?  No problem, a quick You- Tube tutorial can change that for you.  If your not too savvy with a French braid, you can create two three strand braids instead and get similar results.  Before braiding, prep your hair with our Iles Formula Finishing Serum for control and hold.  After a couple of days, you can release the braids and end up with beautiful beachy waves.  If the waves are too curly, spritz them with a bit of water to relax them slightly.  You will end up with a looser or tighter version as pictured below.

Bantu Knots

Bantu Knots are another great option for No Heat Curls. If your more adventurous with your hairstyles, you can wear these for a couple days like the braids, before releasing them.  The wider the sections, the looser your curls will be, the smaller the sections the tighter the curls will be.  So go ahead and get creative, you can even combine both smaller and larger sections for variations in curl sizes.

When you release the knots, you will end up with a tighter, bouncier curl.  Be sure to twist the hair around faceline away from the face.

Headband Curls

Headband curls are another no heat option.  This technique works best on dry hair.  Start by prepping your with Iles Formula Finishing Serum, and place a headband onto your head like the image below.  Next, take one inch sections and wrap them up and around the headband until all of the hair is wrapped.  Repeat until you have wrapped up all of the hair.  If you like how it looks, wear it for the day before releasing.  If it is not a style you fancy, then set it before bed and release upon waking.

Top Knot

Top Knots are a great way to create a no heat curl or wave in the hair.  They are super convenient also, because what women doesn’t love wearing a top knot.  So this is a super convenient way to eliminate the use of an iron for a looser curled effect.  Prep the hair with Iles Formula Finishing Serum, and secure a ponytail on top of the head.  Next, take the loose hair and twist it until it forms a knot and secure with a bobby pin or another elastic.

When you release the top knot, the result is a loose and bouncy curl.  The same rules apply, the larger the section, the looser the curls.  The smaller the section, the tighter the curls.

Roller Set

The roller set is a classic way of creating curl in the hair.  You can set the hair wet and allow it to dry completely before releasing.  Or, if you are short on time, you can lightly spritz the hair to dampen it, and set it half way dry.  When setting hair with rollers, be sure to comb the sections so that they are completely combed smooth, and then roll them.  This will provide a cleaner set, which results in a better finish.  Set the rollers in front away from the face.

Be gentle when removing the rollers, trying not to disrupt the curls too much.  When all of the rollers are removed, gently shake your head for a more tousled look, or use a dressing brush to detail the set.

Pin Curls

The final No Heat Curls technique is Pin Curls.  Pin curls are a classic way of setting the hair, however they can be time consuming and take a bit more patience.  The best way to create pin curls, is to section the hair by rows.  Then row by row, take 1 inch sections and roll the section around your first two fingers.  After you have rolled them, secure them at the base using clips.  Wrap all of the sections in the first row in the same direction.  In the next row, wrap in the opposite direction and so on.

For all of the hard work it takes creating pin curls, the payoff is major.  You can get a looser, more classic wave style, or even a tighter brushed out variation that is also a fun option.  Either way, a pin curl set has lasting power and you will definitely be able to get a couple of days use out of it.

The options are endless when it comes to No Heat Curls, mainly because just by changing the sizes of your sections you can get a completely different look.

This week Paris was buzzing for Paris Haute Couture 2017.  It’s always inspiring to see what each design house will think of next, and what direction hair and make up will take.  This season, The Ponytail Dominates Paris Haute Couture 2017 in a big way.  We’re seeing many variations that are sure to inspire.  In this journal, we are highlighting some of our favorites from backstage with Vogue.com at Paris Haute Couture.  Are you a ponytail lover?  If so, then this is definitely for YOU!

Rodarte

To start things off, we definitely wanted to highlight the hair at Rodarte.  We love how they played with the ponytail, by securing it back with ribbons, flowers, and bows, rather than completely securing it with an elastic.  It gives an angelic and loose feel.  How can you make this your own and street wearable?  Think less is more, follow the same inspiration, but just use one ribbon, or flower. Have a peek at some more from backstage at Rodarte:

Chanel

One of our favorites was the Ponytail that was created for the Chanel show.  This long ponytail with a twist is a quick and easy way to switch things up a bit.   To recreate this ponytail, all that you will need is a couple of elastics, bobby pins, a dressing brush, and some Iles Formula Finishing Serum.  If your hair is not already long, you can use and extension piece to add length.

To recreate, start by polishing the hair with Iles Formula Finishing Serum.  This will provide the hair with a satin shine, suppleness and control.  Then, simply brush the hair back into a low ponytail and secure.  Next, wrap the hair extension around the ponytail and secure with a pin.  To hide the weft, take a small section of hair and wrap it around the base of the ponytail and secure underneath with another pin.  Twist the hair and then wrap it around to create a loop.  Secure the ends at the base with another elastic.  This is such a simple way to change things up a bit.

Proenza Schouler

The next show we wanted to highlight was the hair at Proenza Schouler.  We love how the hair was made to look like a ponytail.  Using a different method, the hair is directed completely away from the the face, into the back behind the ear.  Not a single elastic was used to hold this, yet it still looks secured.

Schiaparelli

Sometimes for shows, less is definitely more.  Schiaparelli decided to go with a simple more classic vibe for hair, and we think it’s perfect.  Clean styles, with soft whispy bits made this one of our faves.  We love the shine that you see in the hair, and this can easily be created in your hair by applying our Iles Formula Finishing Serum.  What do you think?

Christian Dior

Textured Ponytails was the theme for hair at Christian Dior this season, and we had to include it in our Paris Haute Couture highlights.  These textured, yet soft looks came to life on the runway, as they flowed ever so slightly with the wind as the models walked the runway.

Occasional hats were placed to compliment the garments, while adding a different touch to the hair.  This is so wearable off the runway that we just had to share.

Giambattista Valli

Last but definitely not least was the hair at Giambattista Valli. We love the juxtaposition of smooth and sleek around the face, and textured and loose on the ends.  Such a perfect way to change up a simple ponytail.  The easiest way to create this to be sure that the hair around the face stays super smooth, is to apply product and brush the hair smooth and away from the face.  Then secure with an elastic.  Use some hair to wrap the base and hide the elastic, securing it with a pin underneath.  Once you have place and secured the hair, you can use a 1 inch iron to add texture to the ends.  How easy is this, and very wearable too.

Defined Shapes

We always love strong defined shapes, and these structured images are nothing short of fierce.  These shapes are ideal for distinct facial features.  Our Iles Formula products are made for all hair types.   Coarse, curly ethnic hair can especially benefit from our special formulas because of the robust amount of hydration they provide. Braids

Vintage Waves are still a thing, and quite honestly they are just as popular as ever before. We wanted to take some time and share our technique for  How To Create A Classic Hollywood Waves Hair Style, and share tips from behind the scenes at runway shows around the world.

As you will see in the images shown here, the waves can go from tighter to looser and can be worn on shorter to longer hair.  By adjusting the size of your curling tongs, you will be able to achieve any of these looks.  Larger irons for looser waves, and smaller irons for tighter waves.  That will be the only thing that will change, the technique will stay the same.  Now that we shared that important piece of information, let’s get right into it.

What You Will Need

Before we begin, let’s first discuss what you will need for How To Create A Classic Hollywood Waves Hair Style.  Before even starting to style the hair, it is always recommended to use a styling product and product that will provide protection.  For this we recommend our Iles Formula Finishing Serum.  This is a high performance product, so a little bit goes a long way.  Apply mid lengths to ends for best results.

Next you will need some clips, a hairdryer, your curling tong (iron), a dressing brush, and a rat tail comb.

After you have gathered all of the necessary tools that you will need just follow these steps and you will have this technique mastered.

Step 1

First, start by applying your Iles Formula Finishing Serum mid lengths to ends and prep your hair by blowing it out with your hair dryer.  Some people like to skip or rush through this step, but believe it or not it is the most important step.  Preparation is key, so take the time to do it right by building in the foundation.

Step 2

After the hair is properly prepped, we will section the hair.   Now is the time to determine where you will part your hair.  After you have placed the part, we will begin at the bottom nape area, and create a 1 inch think section using your rat tail comb.  All of the other hair will be wrapped and clipped on top of the head.

Step 3

Now we will begin curling.  Before we begin this part though, determine which direction you will need the curls to go.  Meaning if your hair is parted on the left and you want the waves to direct away from the face, then this means that we will want to curl every single section in that direction.  Once you have determined this, we begin curling.  Each section we curl will be 1 inch thick.  Try to stay very consistent with this, as that is how you will get best results.  Place the iron vertically, with the tip pointed down, and begin wrapping the hair around the iron.  The time it will sit on the iron, will depend on your hair’s density.  If the wrapped hair feels warm to touch, then it is finished.

When you release the curls, gently un wrap them as to not disrupt the curl pattern, as it is still vulnerable to change until it has cools.  Which leads us to our next step.

Step 4

After releasing each section, wrap the curls gently back into place and clip them using your duck bill clips.  Doing this will give you a stronger curl patter that will hold all day.  This happens as a result of allowing the hair to cool completely in the curled position.

Step 5

Continue to repeat this same process throughout the entire head shape.  If you would like to create a looser version just increase the iron size and the section size.  Remember every single section is being curled in the exact same direction, using the same tension.

Step 6

After the entire head is complete and all of the curls have cooled completely you can now remove the clips and let the curls down.  Be gently when removing the clips as to not disrupt the curl too much.

Step 7

This part is super important.  Use your dressing brush to brush through the curls.  Brush in large sections and continue brushing.  When you think you have brushed enough, keep brushing.  This step is important because by brushing with the dressing brush, you are causing the waves to all fall into place with one another.  You will start to see the wave pattern happen.  At this point if you still have some time before you have to head out, you can use your duck bill clips as pictured below to help push those curves into the waves.

Step 8

This final step can be a little tricky, because it is very easy to over do it, so think less is more.  If you really want to push those waves into place and add more definition to them, start at the top at the first wave, take your rat tail comb and place it horizontally just underneath the first wave.  Gently push the comb up under the wave until you see the wave start to have more definition.  Please note, this is not a teasing method, simply a push of the wave.  If you tease, you will completely destroy the pattern of the wave.  Follow this trick where ever the waves need to be accentuated a bit.

Add your own detailing to personalize it to your liking and this is really all there is to it.  Below we have provided images of other variations of finished results, ranging from tighter waves, to looser waves, and also showing shorter variations as well.

Parabens and Sulfates…You hear about them all the time, but it seems no one ever really shares why it’s important?  Are they safe?  Should we avoid them?  We wanted to break it down for you and share What Exactly Is A Paraben And Sulfate And Why Your Haircare Products Should Be Free Of Them.

They are found in everything from haircare, skin care, makeup, deodorant and lotions, and it doesn’t end there.  It can be a process to figure out if all of what your using contains them or not, but little by little you can make more conscious purchases just by knowing what you are looking for.

What Is A Paraben?

First things first, what exactly is a Paraben?  To keep it simple, it is a class of widely used preservatives found in beauty products and pharmaceuticals.  They come in many chemical variations, and have been around for more than 50 years.  So what’s the big deal then right?  Well, let us explain…

Parabens are said to mimic the activity of the hormone estrogen.  This can be concerning to some, as many believe this estrogen activity to be associated with some forms of breast cancer.  Studies have not necessarily proven this as of yet, but why take a chance.  If this type of health information concerns you then it wouldn’t be a bad idea to choose products that are free of this preservative, right?

If you have made the choice to start looking for products to better suit your health, there are many options for you now.  Many brands are choosing to be more conscious in the creations and testings of their products.  Our Iles Formula products are all free of Parabens, as we feel, if it doesn’t need it for top performance, then why add it in.

What Is A Sulfate?

Simply put, a sulfate is a cleansing agent. It’s the suds and bubbles.  They can be found in shampoo, toothpaste, body washes, soaps and more.  You’re probably thinking well that’s fine, we need that right?   Not exactly…  There is controversy right now around sulfates and whether they are harmful or not.  They are said to cause damage to cell membranes and said to leave residues in some major organs in the body.  That’s what is happening on the inside.   What about your hair?  Sulfates are known to strip the hair of their natural oils, resulting in frizzy, dry, and brittle hair.

So why do we need it then?  Many shampoos are labeled sulfate free and typically one of the things most people dislike about sulfate free shampoos, is that they do not suds up.  So, your left feeling as if it didn’t properly cleanse your hair. What do we recommend?  Make slow transitions.  Start with your obvious switches, maybe your haircare products.  From there you can do a bit more research and decide if there are other products you would like to switch out.

If you have curly hair, more than likely you have done a curl profile on your hair.  This is a great place to start.   If you haven’t, then you are probably asking “What is a curl profile?”  Simply put, it is a chart that breaks down what type of curl pattern you have.  This helps tremendously for determining what type of products you should be using and how to best care for your curls when styling.

The more kinky the curl, the more thirsty they are.  So how do you hydrate them?   The answer is simple, feeding your curls the right products is the best way to re hydrate and fight frizz.

Curl Products

The absolute best curl products are those that provide hydration.  Think about it this way, when you are thirsty, you drink a glass of water.  That is exactly what hydrating products do for hair.  It’s like giving your curls a giant glass of water.

Maintenance

Being part of the Germany’s Next Top Model Makeovers is a big and important episode for the show, not only for the models, and the viewers,  but also the channel. It’s a much anticipated event for viewers and challenging work for myself and the makeover team.

23 heads to revamp  with cuts, colors  and extensions in 5 hours with cameras everywhere documenting every word and every move. It’s not your normal day at the office. If we the team look tired and frazzled on your screens there is a good reason why!

Once the models are chosen I have  3  or 4 episodes of filming to observe the models  and make a plan on  hair makeover ideas to present to Heidi Klum (the shows anchor woman). I use visuals to present my ideas in a format as we have documented below. This is also my guide on the day, so I know exactly what I’m doing under the speed we need to work . Color images also help our colorist to define the shade required.

Herewith 5 of the girls who had the most radical makeovers.

Sally:

The moment I saw Sally there was no hesitation in my mind about this short Jean d’Arc bob, her features worked perfectly for it. The color also was very obvious for me if we were going  in this direction she needed a  fashion color of interest.

 Stephanie:

You can see in the maquette  below where I was drawing the idea of  cheek bangs and a fringe onto her photo. I loved this cut on her so much. It took her from a school girl look to something more suitable for the catwalk … did you love it?  We decided to leave her color as is, allowing the cut to be the feature.

Pia:

I thought about Pia for a long while before deciding on long bangs, I found something very 80’s about her beauty, so I wanted to elaborate on this.  In addition,  her forehead was quite high and therefore, adding bangs brought attention to her beautifully shaped mouth.

Zoe:

Sweet Zoe has something very Lolita about her, but being on Thomas’ team we wanted to break this and make her more edgy.

Even so, we had 2 ideas, I documented them both however, and saved the decision making for the day of makeover. The options? Either we leave her the color she is and add extensions taking her into a Lolita direction,  or we would lighten her to platinium  blonde and give her a shorter  London vibe  hair cut. We opted for the latter. Zoe loved the look and wore it like it really belonged to her.

Klaudia:

That hair….. magnificent  there was not a split end. I fought hard to keep her length, nothing would convince me to cut this hair off, plus it’s a great contribution to her beauty. However the color was not flattering, I wanted her to stand out more, so opted for red tones. Her personality is so vibrant and joyous so this color just seemed to fit. We also lightened her eyebrows to fit with her new hair color.

I had one stipulation for the colorist, not too much chemical work to keep her hair as healthy as could be. To take the hair story a step further, we gifted Iles Formula  into the homes of each of the girls showers.   This will also ensure the models hair will be repaired and in pristine health even after the show.

Ann:

It was very obvious that Ann’s hair color should be less ash and more gold.  She was looking very washed out. The haircut I did was an undercut with some asymmetric lengh on top that allowed for some variation.

We colored and cut 23 models this day, which would be too many to document here. Not all of the models had both cuts and colors, others had lengthening and thickening with extensions.   We did a full circle with a most of the girls, just one maybe two of the girls we left  alone, as we didn’t consider a change would be for the better.

Split Ends

To begin, lets talk about split ends.  What are they and how do we even end up getting them?  Also, are they even repairable?

Split ends are caused by improperly detangling hair, brushing wet hair incorrectly and excessive use of heat tools such as blowdryers and irons, all of which weaken the hair shaft and cause the hair to be more prone to split ends.

So, the BIG question is, are split ends repairable?

  Well,  we at Iles Formula know they can be as our finishing serum over time will  fuse the split ends  by sealing them together. However we don’t really advertise this benefit because we are professionals and we prefer you trim them off and use our Finishing Serum as preventative.

1./. Be careful when using heating tools.  Just because the tool goes up to 450 degrees, does not mean you should be using it that high.

2./. Use a heat protection product, like our Iles Formula Finishing Serum.  It makes for the perfect barrier from the heat.

3./. Use conditioner,   especially on the ends.  We love our Iles Formula Conditioner for best results. Nothing closes down the hair scales or repairs and nourishes hair as quickly or efficient as this conditioner. You can read that on our reviews.

4./. Get regular trims or haircuts.  For many whom are growing out their hair, they fear cutting to avoid getting too short, but you really need to keep those ends cleaned up.  Trust us, your hair will grow and perform better in the long term.  Plus, when the ends are needing a cut, they tend to create more tangles, which in turn can cause you to create damage while brushing.  So keep this in mind.

5./. Don’t visit the salon for hair color before the recommended time.

Dry Hair

Oftentimes, people get confused as to whether their hair is dry or actually damaged.  Let us share with you the difference.  Lets talk about what causes dry hair first.

Dry hair is often caused from heating tools and environment.  If you are flat ironing your hair every single day, plus blowdrying, you will often end up with dry  broken hair.  If your living in the desert or dry climates, this can  also cause dry hair.  In addition, extreme cold climates play similar havoc. Perhaps you are swimming in the ocean every day, the salts from the water combined with the harsh sun can do a number on your hair and cause it to look and feel dry.  Not to worry though, because dry hair can be fixed on most occasions, instantly in the case of Iles Formula as your treatment.

As you can see above, the hair on the left is very dry.  But the same image on the right after just one Iles Formula treatment looks like a completely different head of hair. These are unretouched images and no extensions were added, just one treatment of Iles Formula 3 step system.

We know ladies…You go to the salon and spend hundreds to get that beautiful white cool blonde, or that vibrant copper or red, even the perfect chocolate or soft pastel rainbow color.  We know, we see those selfies.  The truth is you feel amazing, you’re loving your color, and it is finally the perfect tone you have been hoping for.  Then, one day, and literally it seems like it happens overnight, your color you have been obsessing over has faded, leaving you with a not so stellar hue.  Your cool blonde is now brassy, or your copper or red is now an undesirable tone of orange, or your pastels have completely disappeared.  If this happens to you much sooner than you desire, then we are here to help.  In this journal we are breaking it down by hair color, and giving you professional tips for How To Prevent Your Hair Color From Fading So Quickly.  Check out some of our favorite tips to give your hair color that extra longevity.

Pastel Hair Color

If you’re a pastel hair color lover, then you know exactly what we are talking about when we say high maintenance.  Pastel hair color can be a bit of a buzz kill when it comes to longevity.  If your pastel tones are one color, then keeping it fresh can be an easier task than those that go for multiple pastels.  If this is your thing, then very regular salon visits will be a necessity for you to maintain the colors.  Pastels are often created using direct dyes, which are temporary…very temporary.  So temporary that salon visits will need to be every 3-4 weeks for touch ups.

There are options for touching up your pastel colors at home.  First and foremost, it is never a bad idea to make sure you are using haircare products that will help to preserve and extend the life of your color.  In addition, opting for products that will maintain and improve the health of your hair should also be a top priority.  As a pastel addict, you know that your hair must first be lifted to a platinum or very light blonde.  Unfortunately this can come with some damage and raised cuticles.  The problem with the lifted cuticle is that when the cuticle is open, the color will wash out easier and faster than if the cuticle is  shut down tight.  To do so, you want to use products that will balance the ph in your hair and also hydrate and repair.  Our Iles Formula Shampoo and Conditioner is your hairs BFF.

Quite often coloring extensions is a very complex procedure, because 9 times out of 10 this human hair has been purchased from 3rd world countries. The hair starts off black and is bleached up several times for the European/ American market ranging from all shades of browns , auburns to blondes. The hair  once purchased is often very porous.  The key here is be sure to use a conditioner like Iles Formula that will not only close those cuticles but will actually repair the poroisty damage that the extensions have. It’s Coachella Season, and sometimes we feel like it really is a season all of its own.  After all, it does takes up two full weekends during the month of April.  Streams of music lovers will make their way to the hip city of Palm Springs to gather for this desirable music festival.  Are you heading to Coachella?  If so, you may be planning what you will wear.  The big question is how will you be wearing your hair.  The goal…To look super Coachella-ish but make it your own.  Lets not forget you will be under the sun most of the day, so comfort is also an important factor.  In this journal, we are sharing Coachella 2018 Hairstyles For Perfect Hair Every Day.

Braids

Braids are always a great option for Coachella or music festivals in general because they look super cool, but will keep you temperature cool at the same time.  However, why not switch up the type of braid that you would typically do.  So its not so predictable.  Here are some of our favorite suggestions below of some no so common braids that will stand out.

Instead of the regular boxer braids, switch out the type of braid with a fish tail braid.  It adds a completely different feel and they actually look like feathers.  Use our Iles Formula Finishing Serum for control while braiding, and it will also provide UV protection for your hair while you are in the sun all day.

This braid is super fun, start by taking a thin section down the center of your part.  Begin braiding from the back and when you get to the front leave the ends out and pin them back behind the ear.  These little simple details add so much to a basic hairstyle.

How about opting for a rope braid like the one above.  We love the super long larger than life version.  To achieve this, add some hair extensions while braiding.  This will give you the longer length and also add thickness to your braid.

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your braids, take a typical two stranded boxer braid and combine them together.  Next section that hair into several sections and braid those.  Quite a different look it gives wouldn’t you say?  This is a super easy way to get different results from your typical braids.

Try a braid that is loose and barely hanging on.  It gives a very soft and lived in feel.  Work with your hair’s natural texture by adding Iles Formula Finishing Serum to the hair and let it air dry.  Once the hair is dry, a simple three strand braid at the bottom is all you need.  If its too tight, loosen it up by pulling the braid apart some.  Don’t forget the fringe jacket, that adds a nice touch.

Last weekend Beyonce shut down Coachella with an epic performance.  If you didn’t see it, you definitely heard about it.  We couldn’t help but fall in love with her hair.  A simple style, but definitely one to have in your arsenal should you have the urge to channel your inner Beyonce.  So, of course we are showing you How To Get Beyonce’s Hairstyle From Her Coachella 2018 Performance.  It’s quite easy to do, can be worn on all hair types, and can be adjusted  for all hair lengths as well, so check out this step by step and give it a try.

What You Will Need

Before we get started with how to create the look, let’s quickly list what you will need to achieve the look, this way if your are following along you can grab what you will need first.

• Shampoo/Conditioner
• Serum
• Blowdryer/Diffuser
• Pin Iron
• Wide Tooth Comb

Step By Step

Read on to learn How To Get Beyonce’s Hairstyle From Her Coachella 2018 Performance:

1/.  Begin by washing and conditioning your hair.   Next,  on damp hair,  apply a liberal amount of Iles Formula Finishing Serum to the hair from mid lengths to ends.  The Finishing Serum will help to eliminate frizz, and control the texture while you are drying or diffusing your hair.

2/.  Next, comb the Finishing Serum through your hair.  If you are currently using our Iles Formula products then our Distribution Comb works very well for this.  This will ensure that the product is being distributed evenly through out the hair.  If you have very thick hair, it’s best to apply the product section by section, to be consistent and thorough..

3/.  After the product has been distributed, you can dry your hair.  If your hair is already curly, you can diffuse it.  If you don’t have curly texture, not to worry, just dry it as you normally would.  Be sure to dry your hair exactly how you will be parting it.

4/.  Once the hair is completely dry, you will begin to curl.  For the proper curl, you will need a pin iron.  This is a very small rod iron, that is 3/8″ in diameter.  Like the one pictured below.  Most pin irons have the clamp on them.  If you can find one in that size without the clamp then we suggest getting that size, if not, then you can take the clamp off by removing the screws on the sides.  Save the parts, because they can be put back on when you are done.

The reason for removing the clamp, is that it is much easier to work with this small iron without having to keep the clamp opened the entire time.

5/.  Now it’s time to curl.  If you already have curly hair, you may not need to curl every single piece of hair.  You can literally go in and detail or spot curl where it is needed most.  If your curl pattern does not match the pattern that the iron creates, you may need to curl the entire head for the exact results.  If you do not have curly hair texture, you will have to curl every piece of hair.  This can be a time consuming process, but it’s definitely worth it because you will be able to wear this style for several days after.

6/.  Now let’s discuss the proper way to create the actual curls.  Start by taking a small section of hair at the bottom and securing the rest of the hair  up and out of the way with a clip.  You will then take small, no bigger than 1/4 inch subsections, to curl.

7/. Point the tip of the iron down, and begin wrapping the hair around the iron all the way to the ends. Turn the hair  always toward the centre back which will  open up the face and allow the correct flow to the hair.  Allow it to sit on the iron until the hair feels warm to touch.   When it’s ready, simply unwind the hair from the iron and let it set.  Do not break up the curl until all of the hair is complete and cold.

8/. Repeat this process row by row, as you move all the way up to the top of your head.  When each section is complete and all of the hair has been curled, its time to break up the curls.

9/.  To break up the curls, start in the bottom again, and clip the rest of the hair up.  Using your pointer finger, take each curl and place your pointer finger at the base of the curl closest to the scalp.  Split the section in half by running your finger down the curl in the center.  This will break up the curl, but still allow the curl pattern to remain in tact without causing the curls to get frizzy.  Repeat this process on each curl.

10/.  For a faster process, you can use the Iles  Formula Distribution Comb to comb out the curls in larger sections.   This will tend to open up the curls more and take away more of the curl pattern, so if you decide to go this route, less is definitely more.  Perhaps just one pass through with the comb will be sufficient.

When you have completed this process, you are all finished.  You now have achieved Beyonce’s hair from her Coachella 2018 performance.  Best part, you get to enjoy it for days because this style will literally last 3-4 days.  To preserve it, sleep with your hair piled into a loose top knot.  If any of the hair has lost its curl, all you will need to do is a quick touch up on those pieces.

How To Properly Apply A Hair Mask For Best Results

So now that you have set the mood, it’s time to indulge.  Here is what you need to know for best results.  To begin, start by cleansing your hair.  A clarifying shampoo would not be a bad idea, simply because it removes build up and impurities from the hair. Following your  clarifying Shampoo, you can use your regular shampoo.  We love our Iles Formula Shampoo as it gives you a jump start because the silk proteins will nourish your hair.

After shampooing, apply liberally the Iles Formula Mask throughout the mid lengths and ends of the hair. Comb through for perfect distribution. The comb will deliver to the scalp the correct quantity of product needed. After the product is evenly distributed throughout the hair, uses clips or pins to wrap your hair into a top knot.  For an added bonus, wrap your hair in a hot steamy towel.  This will encourage the product to penetrate deeper and provide you with extra nourishment.  Indulge for 5-15 minutes and then rinse.
